The Carthaginians in the Aegean
Evidence for the presence of Phoenicians in the Aegean is consistent (Rhodes, Paros, Delos, Attica, Eretria). The same about their Western counterparts is not true. Yet according to litterary, epigraphical and archaeological evidence a number of Carthaginians —and more generally of Punics— visited the Aegean as early as the 5th century BC. The presentation will focus on their status and activities.
